Songs of The Ohio State University

Varsity

Varsity, Varsity,
You're the finest in the land,
You can play to beat the band,
Varsity, Varsity,
Wahoo, Wahoo, Rip, Zip, Bazoo,
Varsity.

Varsity, Varsity,
You're the finest in the land,
You can play to beat the band,
Varsity, Varsity,
Wahoo, Wahoo, Rip, Zip, Bazoo,
Varsity.

While there is more information on Wahoo! Wahoo!, there is little information about the song. It appears in the 1916 and 1923 editions of Songs of Ohio State University, and the 29 November, 1906 football program, so it dates the song from at least 1906; it ceased being used after 1921. Varsity uses the melody of Tammany, which was composed in 1905. One can speculate that Varsity was the Let's Go Bucks cheer of its time. Also, Across the Field became the primary fight song of choice, in 1916; Buckeye Battle Cry would be adopted, in 1919; and Ohio (I Wanna Go Back To Ohio State), also written in 1906; would eliminate the need for Varsity, Grand Old Ohio State, On The Sidelines and Wahoo! Wahoo!.
