Songs of The Ohio State University

Our Best, Ohio

Come all who love Ohio,
Sing Ohio's praise,
For love of Alma Mater,
Voices and hearts we raise,
Whatever others cherish,
This one thing we know,
While all we live, we all will give
Our best to Ohio.

Of all we learn in college,
This we find most true,
That we're for you, Ohio,
All for the love of you!
Your honor and your virtue,
On your sons bestow!
While all we live, we all will give
Our best to Ohio.

When college days are over,
This will yet remain,
The love of our dear mother,
Bringing us back again,
Wherever fate may lead us,
All to you we owe.
While all we live, we all will give
Our best to Ohio.

Our Best, Ohio was entered into the 1916 Ohio State Alumni Association Song Contest by William A. Dougherty, class of 1917. The name may sound familiar, as Mr. Dougherty was also the composer of Across the Field, which he also composed for the same song contest. While Our Best, Ohio was never adopted at Ohio State, Mr. Dougherty's other entry has gone on to become the most famous college fight song in history.
